About:

What we practice is called wushu, a contemporary Chinese martial art and national sport of China.  Wushu and related Chinese martial arts are popularly known by the misnomer “kung-fu.” Contemporary wushu is an exhibition sport derived from traditional Chinese martial arts.  Wushu can be traced back to original martial arts practiced in China for self-defense, hunting, and military needs over 4,000 years ago. Today, contemporary wushu is practiced by millions of people around the world. We mainly practice a style of wushu known as Northern Long Fist, but we also train in Southern Fist, internal styles, and many weapons.

The Dragon Phoenix Wushu Team is a sports club at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The club is led and managed completely by students. The Dragon Phoenix Wushu Team was founded in 1999 by a small group of students with wushu experience. Today the club usually averages between fifteen and thirty-five students at any given time. Wushu experience in the club ranges from no martial arts background whatsoever to those who have been practicing wushu for many years. Anyone is welcome to train with us - we have members ranging from undergraduate freshmen to graduate students. For more information about the club, please visit the contact page!
